Mangaluru: Awareness programme on mental health, stress management, and drug abuse held

Media Release

Mangaluru, Sep 22: An awareness workshop focusing on the impact of drug abuse on youth and the importance of stress management was recently conducted by Dr Thunga’s Manaswini Hospital, Arkula, Mangaluru, in collaboration with Chengala Gram Panchayat, Kasaragod, Kerala.

Shashikala B, counsellor and coordinator for Community and Educational Services at Manaswini Hospital, stressed the importance of prioritising mental health. She explained how issues like anxiety, depression, and emotional struggles affect daily life, and emphasised the need for timely professional help.

The session also introduced practical stress management techniques, including meditation, regular physical exercise, maintaining healthy sleep patterns, and building positive relationships. Participants were encouraged to practice healthy coping mechanisms instead of resorting to harmful behaviors.

A key highlight of the programme was the discussion on the dangers of drug abuse. Shashikala explained that while drugs may appear to provide temporary relief, they ultimately destroy physical health, mental peace, family bonds, and career opportunities. Real-life examples and statistics were shared to highlight the serious risks of addiction.

The programme concluded with an interactive session, where participants raised questions and received practical tips on stress management and mental well-being.

This initiative was successfully arranged with the support of Chengala Grama Panchayat secretary Jison, Health and Education Standing committee member Saleem Yedaneer, along with the enthusiastic participation of students from St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru and the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru.

Through such initiatives, Manaswini Hospital continues its mission to build a healthier, more aware society by spreading knowledge, empowering individuals to make positive lifestyle choices.
