Mangaluru: District-level basketball tournament held at Presidency PU College

Mangaluru, Sep 19: Presidency PU College came alive with cheers and enthusiasm as it hosted the district-level basketball tournament 2025, a spirited celebration of youth talent, sportsmanship, and unity.

The tournament was inaugurated by Vikas Puthran, an international athlete, model, and fitness trainer, who inspired the young players to embrace discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. “Sports teach us crucial life lessons—perseverance, respect, and teamwork,” he said.

Guest of honour Shridhar Chikabettu praised the organizers, emphasizing that such platforms are vital for the holistic growth of students.

Competition results

• Girls’ division: Winners – St Aloysius PU College; runners-up – Presidency PU College

• Boys’ division: Winners – St Aloysius PU College; runners-up – Presidency PU College

Individual honors

• Best shooter (girls): Maithili, St Aloysius PU College

• Best shooter (boys): Mrunal, St Aloysius PU College

• All-rounder: Deekshith Amin and Aliya Jamadar, Presidency PU College

Valedictory and celebrations

The valedictory ceremony saw principal Raghavendra Shenoy, Shaila Saldana (principal, Presidency School), Arun Devraj (assistant director), and Prathiba Chetan (admin manager) congratulating the winners and presenting awards. The event ended on a high note with a vibrant flash mob, capturing the spirit of celebration and togetherness.

The tournament not only showcased remarkable emerging talent but also reinforced the values of fitness, teamwork, and community spirit within the Presidency College fraternity.
