New Delhi, Sep 17: Marking the first anniversary of PMAY-Urban 2.0, the government has launched Angikaar 2025, an ambitious two-month nationwide campaign aimed at speeding up application verification and housing completion for urban beneficiaries.

According to an official statement released on Wednesday, Angikaar 2025 will span over 5,000 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and will include door-to-door outreach, housing assistance camps, and public events to raise awareness and improve last-mile delivery under the housing mission.

In a major development, the government has also approved an additional 1.47 lakh pucca houses, bringing the total number of homes sanctioned under PMAY-Urban 2.0 to 8.56 lakh. Special attention has been given to marginalized communities, with housing allocated for 32,551 Scheduled Caste (SC) families, 5,025 Scheduled Tribe (ST) families, and 58,375 Other Backward Class (OBC) households.

The campaign’s flagship event, “PM Awas Mela – Shehri”, will be held in two phases. The first will run from September 17 to 27, and the second will take place on any date between October 15 and 31. These events will serve as platforms for information dissemination, beneficiary engagement, and showcasing the impact of the PMAY initiatives at the community level.

The government emphasized that Angikaar 2025 is not just about construction but about “reaching the unreached and including the excluded.” This includes support for completing applications, facilitating faster home construction, and linking beneficiaries with services like solar power and housing loans.

Launched in 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) was designed to fulfill the vision of "Housing for All". Over the years, the scheme has helped millions of low-income urban families access safe, affordable, and permanent housing. With the introduction of PMAY-Urban 2.0 in September 2024, the mission has been re-energized with a renewed focus on universal inclusion and saturation-level implementation.

Angikaar 2025, as part of this vision, aims to ensure that no urban family is left behind—every household should have a roof over their head and access to essential services, the government reiterated.
