Panaji, Sep 15: A police head constable attached to Valpoi police station has been suspended with immediate effect following allegations of misconduct.

Sources said head constable Rupesh Malik allegedly demanded money from a complainant, claiming he had “settled” a recently registered case.

North Goa SP issued a wireless message on Sunday announcing Malik’s suspension effective September 14, stating that a formal suspension order would follow. The wireless message did not specify the reason for the action.

Further investigation into the allegations is underway. Over the past five years, Goa police have received complaints against more than 200 personnel for alleged involvement in various crimes, including corruption.
