Mangaluru, Sep 12: Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) transfers pioneering toothbrush patent to StartupFuwu Solutions LLP Mangalore, Karnataka – Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), a leading institution in research and innovation, formally transferred the patent titled "Toothbrush with built-in self-disinfectant" (Application No. 202441080875) to Fuwu Solutions LLP, a rising dental-tech startup incubated at Yenepoya Technology Incubator (YTI) on September 11.
The transfer was executed in the presence of Dr K S Gangadhara Somayaji, registrar, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Asim Syed Sheeraz, Yenepoya Technology incubator, and core inventors: Dr Reuben A Jacob, Dr Fahizah A, Dr Riaz Abdulla, Dr Devika Jayarajan, and Dr Sarah Mariam Abraham.

This novel invention, currently in the pre-commercialization stage, introduces a breakthrough concept in oral hygiene — enabling toothbrushes to actively self-disinfect after every use, significantly reducing microbial contamination and reinfection risk.
The transfer marks a major step forward for the startup in its journey toward clinical validation, investor engagement, and market launch under schemes like the MSME Design Scheme and Startup India.
Dr Reuben A Jacob, co-founder & CEO of Fuwu Solutions LLP, stated, “This transfer not only validates the strength of university-originated innovation but also empowers us to take this solution to households, clinics, and global oral care markets. We thank Yenepoya University and YTI for their continued support.”
The innovation is being positioned as a next-generation oral health product with strong social impact potential, aligning with sustainable development goals (SDG-3: Good Health & Well-being) and Make in India initiatives.
