Goa state election commission appoints returning officers for Zilla panchayat polls

Margao, Sep 12: The Goa State Election Commission has appointed returning officers and assistant returning officers to oversee the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections. The official order was issued by election commissioner Daulat Hawaldar on Thursday.

In North Goa, 25 constituencies have been allocated to deputy collectors and sub-divisional officers. Pernem taluka will manage Arambol, Morjim, Dhargal and Torxem, while Bardez has been divided between two officers to handle Siolim, Anjuna, Calangute and Socorro. Tiswadi has been assigned Santa Cruz, Taleigao and Chimbel, while Bicholim and Sattari will cover the rest of the northern constituencies.

In South Goa, 25 constituencies have been distributed among nine administrative divisions. Ponda taluka will oversee Usgao-Ganjem and Betki-Khandola, while Salcete has been divided between two officers to manage Raia, Colva and Curtorim. Dharbandora, Sanguem, Quepem, Canacona and Mormugao talukas will oversee their respective constituencies.

Mamlatdars and joint mamlatdars have been designated as assistant returning officers to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.

The Election Commission stressed that the appointments are aimed at ensuring a free, fair and transparent electoral process across the state.
