Udupi: Communication & soft skills workshop held at SMVITM

Udupi, Sep 10: Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, in association with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, successfully organized a one-day workshop on Communication Skills and Soft Skills on September 9 at the Seminar Hall, Admin Block.

The chief guest, Dr Damodara Naral, special officer, VTU Extension Center, Mangaluru, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of communication and interpersonal skills in shaping well-rounded engineering graduates. The workshop was presided over by Dr Sudarshan Rao, dean, quality assurance, SMVITM, who highlighted the institute’s commitment to holistic student development.

Renowned resource persons Dr Diwakar P, Department of Humanities, Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, and Bhaskar Pai, independent consultant and former CXO, GE South Asia delivered engaging sessions on verbal communication, emotional intelligence, professional etiquette, and workplace readiness. Their insights bridged academic learning with industry expectations, offering participants practical strategies for personal and professional growth.

An orientation session has been conducted on Quiklrn, an adaptive learning platform designed for use by academic institutions and individual learners by Rajesh and Abhimanyu Verma.

Faculty members from various engineering colleges actively participated in the workshop, which was designed to strengthen core communication skills, cultivate essential soft skills necessary for workplace success, bridge the gap between technical knowledge and professional readiness, and provide expert insights from both academia and industry.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and a vote of thanks, marking a meaningful step toward enhancing the employability and confidence of future engineers.
