Panaji, Aug 30: The Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour at Bambolim is set to commission a day care centre aimed at rehabilitating mentally ill persons, a health official said.

Long-stay patients recovering at IPHB will be trained in activities of daily living and occupational therapy. The centre will operate from morning to evening during the week.

Patients with chronic mental illnesses will first be assessed by the occupational therapist to identify areas needing improvement. They will then receive training in tailoring, origami, seashell and coconut shell crafts, candle making, carpentry, embroidery, crochet, and other activities.

This initiative aims to equip patients with skills that can help them reintegrate into society and support themselves through meaningful occupation.
