Rotary Club M'lore North donates cancer surgery equipment worth Rs 30 lac to Lady Goschen Hospital

Mangaluru, Aug 27: Rotary Club of Mangalore North has donated advanced surgical equipment worth around Rs 30 lac to Lady Goschen Government Hospital to support cancer surgeries for women.

Member of Parliament for Dakshina Kannada, Capt Brijesh Chowta, who was the chief guest, praised the contribution and lauded the dedicated service of the hospital staff. “Lady Goschen Hospital has brought about remarkable progress in gynaecological treatments. This donation from Rotary will help wipe the tears of the poor and take healthcare a step further,” he said.

Former Rotary governors Vikram Datta and Krishna Shetty expressed appreciation that the Rotary Global Grant had been effectively channelled to strengthen public healthcare at Lady Goschen. Major donor Dr Shivaprasad Rai and Rotary Mangalore North president Arun Kumar Shetty also spoke, expressing hope that the equipment would bring new light into the lives of beneficiaries.

Medical superintendent Dr Durgaprasad M R, who presided over the function, said that in the past year, nearly 240 cancer-related surgeries had been carried out at the hospital with the support of Kasturba Medical College specialists. The new equipment, he noted, would further enhance the quality of advanced surgical procedures.

On behalf of Lady Goschen Hospital, mementoes were presented to those who worked to secure the international grant. Also present on the dais were Dr Shraddha Shetty, head of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology, KMC, and resident medical officer Dr Jagadish. The programme was compered by nursing superintendent Ambika, while Jyoti Prabha proposed the vote of thanks.
