Madurai, Aug 27: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and popular actor Vijay has landed in legal trouble after a complaint was filed against him and his security personnel for allegedly manhandling a man during a political event in Madurai.

The complainant, Sarath Kumar, alleged that he was roughed up by Vijay’s bouncers when he attempted to get a closer glimpse of the actor-turned-politician at a rally held on August 21. The incident reportedly took place while Vijay was addressing supporters as part of TVK’s campaign ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

A video of the rally, shared by news agency ANI, shows Vijay walking along a raised ramp surrounded by cheering crowds. At the beginning of the clip, a man is seen being pushed off the stage — which stood nearly seven feet high — by security staff. Several other supporters who tried to reach Vijay were also forcefully blocked.

Following the incident, Sarath Kumar lodged a complaint at the Perambalur police station on Tuesday. Based on his statement, a case has been registered against Vijay and his bouncers under sections 189(2), 296(B), and 115(I) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to unlawful assembly and abetment of an offence punishable with life imprisonment or death.

The incident has triggered heated debates on social media, with many questioning the aggressive handling of fans at political events. Meanwhile, the TVK leadership has not yet issued an official statement regarding the case.
