Congress hits back at BJP over vote theft, Justice Reddy row

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 26: Congress leader Pawan Khera launched a scathing attack on the BJP on Tuesday, accusing the ruling party of misleading the public with unsubstantiated claims about electoral malpractice and dodging accountability when it comes to evidence.

“Where is their proof? If they’re serious, let them present evidence,” Khera told reporters. “When we raised the issue of vote theft, Rahul Gandhi shared documented proof during his press conference on August 7. The BJP should do the same instead of making hollow accusations.”

As the chairman of the media and publicity department of the All India Congress Committee, Khera emphasized that historical allegations made without backing are meaningless. “If the BJP claims the Congress has a past of electoral misconduct, then show the records. Baseless charges don’t hold up.”

The Congress has intensified its campaign around alleged manipulation of voter lists in Bihar, where elections are nearing. Rahul Gandhi, along with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, is leading a 16-day Voter Adhikar Yatra to protest the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, which they claim is being used to disenfranchise voters.

Khera also came down hard on the BJP for calling former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy, the INDIA bloc’s Vice-Presidential nominee, “pro-Maoist.” He criticized BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad for “recklessly making claims without even reading the Supreme Court judgement.”

“The verdict authored by Justice Reddy clearly condemns Maoism and upholds the role of state security forces—not private militias like ‘Salwa Judum’,” Khera explained.

He pointed out the BJP’s inconsistency, noting that their own government in Goa had once appointed Justice Reddy as Lokayukta. “Back then, the BJP had no problem with his judicial record. This selective outrage won’t fly anymore.”

In a broader critique, Khera also slammed the Modi government’s economic and foreign policy decisions, particularly in light of the U.S. government's recent move to impose a 50% tariff on Indian exports.

“The government’s failures are now affecting India’s position globally—both economically and diplomatically,” he warned.
