Bengaluru, Aug 26: Ola Electric has secured compliance certification under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for its Gen 3 electric scooter lineup, a move that is expected to boost its profitability and strengthen market competitiveness.
The certification, granted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, is valid across all seven models of the Ola S1 Gen 3 portfolio — S1 Pro 3 kWh, S1 Pro 4 kWh, S1 Pro+ 4 kWh, S1 X 2 kWh, S1 X 3 kWh, S1 X 4 kWh, and S1 X+ 4 kWh. With this, both Ola’s Gen 2 and Gen 3 scooter portfolios now stand PLI-certified, making the company eligible for 13 to 18 percent incentives on the determined sales value.
A spokesperson for Ola Electric Mobility Limited said, “Securing PLI certification for our Gen 3 scooters, which form the bulk of our sales, is a critical step towards profitability. This will directly strengthen our cost structure and margins, enabling sustainable growth. With our auto business targeted to turn EBITDA positive, the certification acts as a strong catalyst while ensuring our customers continue to get best-in-class EVs at highly competitive prices.”
The development comes shortly after Ola’s Sankalp 2025 event, where the company launched the Ola S1 Pro Sport and unveiled its Gen 4 platform. The new platform will power a range of upcoming vehicles including an electric car, three-wheeler auto rickshaw, light commercial vehicle, scooters, and motorcycles.
Powered by the latest 4680 Bharat cell and a newly designed motor with a peak output of 16 kW, the Gen 4 platform will deliver 15 percent higher energy efficiency compared to Gen 3. Ola also aims to achieve lower costs and greater efficiency with in-house battery cell production at its Gigafactory.
