Srinagar, Aug 25: Indian Army troops thwarted an infiltration attempt by terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday. Soldiers detected suspicious movement and opened fire, forcing the infiltrators to retreat, an Army official confirmed. A search operation is currently underway in the area.
The fresh infiltration attempt comes less than two weeks after two Indian soldiers — Havildar Ankit Kumar and Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar — were martyred in the same sector during operational duties on August 13.
The 740-km-long LoC has witnessed fragile calm since India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement on May 10, following four days of hostilities triggered by the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 civilians, including 25 tourists, were killed by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists.

In a related operation on August 13 in Kupwara district, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition. The seizure included:
• A 9 mm Chinese pistol with two magazines and five rounds,
• Three AK-47 magazines with 260 rounds,
• Four UBGL grenades, three Pakistani hand grenades, and an IED/mine with associated wiring,
• Two detonators, 30 mine fuses, and a suspicious electric device,
• 16 sachets of brown sugar, suggesting possible narcotics trafficking links,
• A handbag with a Pakistani address written in Urdu.
The Army remains on high alert as infiltration attempts and cross-border threats continue despite ceasefire assurances.
