New York, Aug 19: Popular Indian stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has scripted history by becoming the first comic to headline a Hindi show at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden, performing to a packed 6,000-strong audience on August 17.

The Indore-born comic, often hailed as “Sakht Launda” by fans, received a standing ovation for his unique blend of storytelling and humour.

Indian-origin American comedian Hasan Minhaj, who attended the show, hailed the milestone in an Instagram post. “A historic night for comedy around the world! Zakir Bhai became the first comedian in history to headline @thegarden entirely in Hindi,” Minhaj wrote, adding, “He combines storytelling and poetry in ways that elevate the genre of comedy.”

Sharing his excitement, Zakir had earlier posted a photo with his team in front of a huge ‘Zakir Khan Live in NYC’ billboard, captioned: “24 hours to go!! @thegarden #historical”.

On the North American leg of his tour, Zakir also joined celebrity chef Vikas Khanna for a light-hearted cooking session.

Known for his comedy specials like Haq Se Single, Kaksha Gyarvi and Tathastu, Zakir has also acted in the popular Prime Video series Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare.
