‘Ozempic Vulva’: Women report intimate changes linked to weight-loss drug

New York, Aug 19: After ‘Ozempic face’ and ‘Ozempic hands’, a new term is making rounds on social media — ‘Ozempic vulva’.

The phrase is not a medical diagnosis but a label coined by women who claim they noticed unexpected changes in their genital area after taking Ozempic or similar GLP-1 weight-loss drugs.

Reports suggest that some women on the medication experience sagging, dryness, loss of fullness, altered discharge, and even pelvic weakness. Experts attribute these changes to rapid weight loss, hormonal shifts, and hydration issues.

Ozempic (semaglutide), approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2017 for diabetes management and later under the brand name Wegovy for obesity, has gained global attention for its weight-loss effects. Celebrities and influencers frequently endorse it, further fueling demand.

According to OB-GYN Dr Sherry Ross, “The rapidity of weight loss can cause visible skin sagging, laxity and wrinkles throughout the body, including the pubic mons and labia.”

Specialists note that quick fat reduction can lead to a deflated or aged appearance of the labia majora, loss of pelvic muscle tone, and vaginal dryness due to reduced estrogen and dehydration. Gut microbiome imbalance linked to the drug may also affect vaginal health.

In some cases, women are turning to cosmetic options such as “labia puffing” with fillers or fat grafts, vaginal tightening, or labiaplasty to restore appearance and comfort.

Real-life accounts highlight the emotional toll. As reported by The Sun, 30-year-old Paige Osprey, who lost nearly 19 kg using weight-loss injections, said the visible changes impacted her self-esteem and intimacy until she opted for filler treatment.

Doctors advise users experiencing such side effects to consult healthcare providers, stay hydrated, and consider pelvic floor exercises to counter weakness.
