Dhaka, Aug 10: Bangladesh has recorded three more dengue-related deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the 2025 death toll to 101, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest fatalities were reported from Chittagong division and Dhaka South City Corporation, United News of Bangladesh reported. In the same period, 448 new dengue cases were admitted to hospitals across the country, bringing the total number of confirmed cases this year to 24,183.

The breakdown of fresh infections includes:

• Barisal – 95 cases
• Dhaka division (excluding city corporations) – 84
• Chittagong – 81
• Khulna – 57
• Dhaka South City Corporation – 46
• Dhaka North City Corporation – 34
• Rajshahi – 34
• Mymensingh – 8
• Rangpur – 7
• Sylhet – 2

Currently, 1,374 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across Bangladesh. In 2024, the country witnessed 575 dengue-related deaths, making it one of the worst years on record.

Health authorities have raised concerns over the evolving nature of the dengue virus. DGHS Director General Dr Abu Jafor recently noted that the current strain is more severe, with patients becoming critically ill much faster.

He emphasised the importance of portable ultrasound and bedside haematocrit machines for early detection and effective treatment, saying these tools help speed up diagnosis and reduce complications.

To support the response, WHO Bangladesh has supplied 1,600 medical units related to dengue management, along with 21 haematocrit machines and eight portable ultrasound machines.

The public has been urged to remain alert and seek medical care promptly if symptoms such as fever occur.
