Washington, Jul 30: US President Donald Trump has dramatically shortened the timeline he previously gave Russia to end its military campaign in Ukraine, warning that Moscow now has just 10 days to agree to a ceasefire — down from the 50-day ultimatum he issued earlier this month.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his return from Scotland, Trump said, "Russia has 10 days from today to come to the table. Otherwise, we’re going to put on tariffs and stuff." The warning marks an escalation in Trump’s pressure campaign on the Kremlin as fighting in Ukraine continues to intensify.

Trump originally threatened Moscow with “severe tariffs” on July 14 unless it halted its operations in Ukraine within 50 days. However, during a meeting on Monday with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump cited Moscow’s “lack of willingness to compromise” and said he was shortening the deadline to “10 or 12 days.”
In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday that Russia has taken note of Trump’s remarks but emphasized that its military operation would proceed. "The special military operation continues. We remain committed to the peace process and to safeguarding Russia’s national interests," Peskov told Russian media, according to Xinhua.
On the ground, the situation remains tense. Russian drone and missile strikes on Sunday targeted Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, injuring four civilians. Meanwhile, Russian defense officials claimed they intercepted over 150 Ukrainian drones, though one person was reported killed and three injured near St. Petersburg due to falling debris.
Trump’s accelerated deadline and renewed tariff threats signal a hardening of Washington’s stance as diplomatic efforts to end the war appear stalled. With both sides showing no signs of backing down, global attention now turns to whether Moscow will respond before Trump’s 10-day countdown expires.
