Washington, Jul 25: US President Donald Trump came down heavily on leading American tech companies for hiring Indian workers and shifting manufacturing to China, calling for an "America First" approach during the AI Summit held in Washington on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, Trump accused companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple of taking advantage of American freedom while setting up factories abroad and cutting profits through international tax havens. “Many of our largest tech companies have built their factories in China, hired workers in India, and slashed profits in Ireland. Those days are over,” he declared.

Urging the industry to adopt a more patriotic stance, Trump said, “We need US technology companies to be all in for America. We want you to put America first.”
The speech coincided with the signing of three executive orders to boost the US artificial intelligence sector. The first, titled Winning the Race, aims to ease regulatory hurdles for AI infrastructure like data centres. The second mandates ideological neutrality in AI systems developed with federal funding, with Trump asserting, “We are getting rid of woke.” The third focuses on reducing export of AI technology and limiting dependency on foreign platforms.
“America is the country that started the AI race,” Trump stated. “As president, I’m here to declare that America is going to win it.”
While there has been no formal announcement regarding visa changes, Trump’s remarks have raised fresh concerns among Indian tech professionals working in fields like AI, software, and data science.
