Kasargod, Jul 25: A case involving the pregnancy and childbirth of a minor girl has come to light in Kanhangad. A 15-year-old girl, who was reportedly unwell, was taken to a hospital by her family, where she delivered a baby girl. The girl is a student studying in SSLC (Class 10).

The Hosdurg police have registered a case under the POCSO Act and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Due to excessive bleeding, the police have not yet been able to record the victim's statement. Although the girl’s mother claimed that the family was unaware of the pregnancy, the police are proceeding to question her. According to police sources, preliminary information has been collected from the mother, and some leads have been identified.

Suspicion has arisen regarding a relative who used to visit the girl’s house frequently. Police are now gathering details about certain relatives who were known to visit the residence.

Police suspect that the girl may have been sexually assaulted by one of her relatives. They plan to record her statement and conduct DNA tests on the suspects to determine the paternity of the newborn. The investigation is being led by Kanhangad DySP Babu Peringoth.
