New Delhi, Jul 21: India is solidifying its position as a global hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with nearly 1,700 centres currently operating across the country — making up approximately 53% of the world’s total GCCs, according to a new report by Vestian Research.
The majority of these centres are clustered in the top six cities — Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Pune — which together account for 94% of India’s GCC footprint. The remaining 6% are distributed across a growing list of Tier 2 and 3 cities, including Kolkata, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Mysuru, Indore, and Bhubaneswar, among others.

Strong Growth Trajectory Ahead
Driven by steady demand and India’s competitive edge, the number of GCCs is expected to exceed 2,100 by FY28, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8%. On average, 150 new centres are anticipated to be set up each year.
“India continues to offer an unbeatable combination of cost efficiency, a skilled talent pool, and modern infrastructure,” said Shrinivas Rao, CEO of Vestian. “However, careful location selection remains vital for long-term GCC success.”
Sectoral Breakdown
The IT sector dominates the GCC landscape in India, accounting for 49% of all centres, followed by the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector at 17%. Other key contributors include Healthcare & Lifesciences, Engineering & Manufacturing, Consulting, and Telecom & Media, which collectively represent another 19%.
Bengaluru Leads, Hyderabad Rises Fast
• Bengaluru tops the chart with 487 GCCs, representing 29% of India’s total.
• Hyderabad, with 273 centres, is the fastest-growing GCC destination.
• Delhi-NCR hosts 272, followed by Mumbai with 207, and Pune with 178.
Evolving Role of GCCs
Since their origin in the 1990s as offshore support hubs, GCCs have evolved into strategic centres for innovation, research, and development. Globally, their total number now stands at around 3,200, with India playing a pivotal role in this transformation.
