Bihar govt to provide 125 units of free power monthly to all homes from Aug 1

Patna, Jul 18: In a major relief for households, the Bihar Cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to provide 125 units of electricity free of cost every month to domestic consumers across the state, effective from August 1.

The decision, cleared during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is expected to benefit around 1.67 cr families.

According to the state’s Information and Public Relations Department, the government will bear an additional cost of Rs 3,797 cr for the scheme, which will be paid to the Bihar State Power Holding Corporation Ltd.

Additionally, the state will offer financial aid to domestic consumers for installing rooftop solar power systems with a capacity of 1.1 KW, the statement said.

Chief Minister Kumar had announced the initiative earlier on July 17, terming it a step towards reducing the financial burden on households and promoting renewable energy.
