Mumbai, Jul 17: Actor R Madhavan has strongly defended his Dhurandhar co-star Ranveer Singh, asserting that a few underwhelming films cannot undermine the career of a talented performer.

In an interview with The Indian Express, Madhavan addressed ongoing speculation over Ranveer’s so-called comeback, stating, “I don't think Ranveer Singh has ever been written off. A couple of ‘not so good’ films don't end an actor's career. He's an extraordinary actor. But it makes a good story for the media to write someone off and then announce their return.”

Drawing comparisons with Hollywood icons, Madhavan noted that even global stars such as Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks have built legendary careers with fewer films. “They don’t do 50–60 films in a lifetime. Even the biggest stars are selective. Here, if we aren’t shooting for three months, people think we’re losing relevance. Neither Ranveer nor I carry that insecurity.”

Speaking on the evolving dynamics of cinema, Madhavan highlighted the need for deeper storytelling and careful crafting. “Today’s Indian audience is informed and empowered. We need to work harder on characters and narratives. Making a good film now takes time. Writing actors off has become a media trend—but we’re not going anywhere,” he asserted.

Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, also stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal. The film is slated for a grand release on December 5.
