Youth wearing earphones fatally hit by train near Sancoale

Sancoale, Jul 15: A tragic incident unfolded near Sancoale on Monday morning when a 23-year-old youth was fatally struck by a moving train while walking on the tracks with earphones on.

The incident occurred around 8 am between Cansaulim and Sancoale, according to a wireless message issued by Vasco Railway Police Station. The deceased was identified as Arun Horo, a native of Munda Toli, Gulda, Tumdegi in Jharkhand's Simdega district.

As per a memo from the Deputy Station Master at Vasco, Horo was seen walking in the middle of the track, wearing headphones and engaged in a phone conversation when an oncoming train hit him. Despite repeated warning horns, he reportedly failed to respond and was hit, dying on the spot from multiple injuries.

Police and railway staff visited the site and shifted the body to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) morgue in Margao for post-mortem.

The Vasco Railway Police ruled out any foul play and have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Further investigations are underway under Vasco Railway Police Inspector Amarnath Passi and under the supervision of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
