Canacona, Jul 6: A 53-year-old woman from Agonda, Guelhermina Fernandes, lost her life in a tragic and freak accident after she fell off a moving scooter while trying to open an umbrella during sudden rains.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon near Bokdamol-Agonda, as Guelhermina and her husband were travelling on a scooter from Canacona toward their home in Agonda. According to Canacona police, the weather turned abruptly, bringing heavy rains and strong gusts of wind.

Though Guelhermina was wearing a raincoat, she reportedly attempted to open an umbrella to shield her husband, who was driving, from the rain. In doing so, she lost her balance due to the force of the wind and fell off the moving vehicle.

From there, she was transferred to South Goa District Hospital in Margao, and later referred to the Goa Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Bambolim for advanced treatment.

Despite the efforts of doctors, Guelhermina remained unconscious and succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Saturday.
