Chennai, Jul 3: The buzz around Coolie, director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-anticipated action thriller starring Superstar Rajinikanth, intensified on Thursday as the makers revealed Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s character name and first look.

Taking to social media, production house Sun Pictures announced that Aamir Khan will play a cameo role named Dahaa. Sharing a poster of the actor sporting a pipe and an intense, rugged look, they wrote:

“#AamirKhan as Dahaa, from the world of #Coolie. #Coolie is all set to dominate IMAX screens worldwide from August 14th.”

The announcement comes just a week after the Hindi title of the film was revised from Majdoor to Coolie: The Powerhouse, aligning it with the Tamil version.

While Rajinikanth headlines the film as the titular coolie in an action-packed story centered around gold smuggling, the film boasts a pan-Indian star-studded cast. Telugu actor Nagarjuna, Kannada star Upendra, Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir, and veteran Tamil actor Sathyaraj play key roles, making Coolie one of the biggest South Indian crossover events of the year.

Actresses Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, and Junior MGR are also part of the ensemble. The music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with Girish Gangadharan handling cinematography and Philomin Raj in charge of editing.

Excitement around Coolie is also being fueled by the long-awaited on-screen reunion of Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj after 38 years. Their last collaboration was in the 1986 Tamil blockbuster Mr Bharath, where Sathyaraj played Rajinikanth’s father.

Interestingly, Coolie will not be part of Kanagaraj’s popular Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), despite early speculation. The director has confirmed that this will be a standalone film, focused entirely on its own storyline and world.

With high-octane action, an ensemble cast, and IMAX release plans, Coolie is shaping up to be one of the year’s most explosive cinematic events when it hits theatres on August 14.
