Microsoft to lay off 9,100 employees in major job cut drive

Seattle, Jul 3: In one of its biggest workforce reductions since 2023, tech giant Microsoft is set to lay off around 9,100 employees nearly 4% of its global staff according to a report by the Seattle Times on Wednesday.

With a workforce of approximately 2.28 lac employees as of June 2024, Microsoft has not issued an official response to the report yet. The layoffs follow a trend in the industry as major companies look to streamline operations amid global economic uncertainties.

Bloomberg had earlier reported in June that Microsoft was planning significant job cuts, particularly in its sales division. The company had already slashed about 6,000 jobs in May.

Across the corporate sector in the US, job cuts have intensified as firms reassess their structures and focus on cost-efficiency, mirroring last year’s large-scale layoffs.
