Washington, Jun 29: In a significant win for former U.S. President Donald Trump, the Senate has narrowly passed the so-called ‘Big Beautiful Bill’, a sweeping legislative package that advances his key policy goals on immigration, tax cuts, and defense spending. The bill was approved by a tight 51–49 vote.
Trump, celebrating the development, took to social media platform X to declare it a “GREAT VICTORY” for the Republican Party. He credited Senators Rick Scott, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, and Cynthia Lummis for their pivotal support, saying, “Tonight we saw a GREAT VICTORY in the Senate... I look forward to working with them to GROW OUR ECONOMY, REDUCE WASTEFUL SPENDING, SECURE OUR BORDER... and PROTECT OUR SECOND AMENDMENT.”

Despite the overwhelming Republican support, three GOP senators — Thom Tillis, Ron Johnson, and Rand Paul — broke ranks and voted alongside Democrats, reflecting internal party divisions on aspects of the legislation.
The bill, central to Trump’s 2024 campaign agenda, aims to extend the 2017 tax cuts implemented during his previous presidency while increasing investments in border enforcement and the military. It earmarks nearly $350 billion toward Trump's national security and immigration framework.
Key provisions include:
• $46 billion for completing the U.S.-Mexico border wall
• $45 billion to expand migrant detention capacity, creating 100,000 detention beds
• Continued tax relief measures for individuals and businesses
• Increased defense spending, particularly benefiting veterans and active military personnel
Dubbed as the foundation for the largest mass deportation operation in U.S. history, the bill is seen as a legislative instrument to deliver on Trump’s hardline immigration promises.
With the Senate hurdle cleared, the bill now moves to the House for further consideration — a crucial step as both parties gear up for a contentious election season.
