Musk slams Trump’s tax & spending bill: ‘Insane & Destructive’

Washington, Jun 29: Billionaire Elon Musk has launched a scathing attack on the US Senate’s draft of Donald Trump’s massive tax-and-spending bill, calling it “utterly insane and destructive.” As the Senate readied to debate the nearly 1,000-page proposal, Musk warned it would destroy millions of jobs and severely harm the country’s strategic future.

“The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country,” Musk posted on X, adding that it “gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.”

Musk’s remarks have reignited tensions with the Trump administration, especially after his recent exit as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge). Earlier this month, he also called the House version of the bill a “disgusting abomination,” accusing lawmakers of passing a “pork-filled” spending package.

The 940-page bill includes sweeping cuts to Medicaid and food stamp programmes, while boosting spending on defence and immigration enforcement. A major feature is Trump’s proposed $350 billion border security plan, which calls for expanding the border wall, adding 100,000 migrant detention beds, and hiring 10,000 new ICE agents with $10,000 signing bonuses.

Musk also echoed criticism from energy expert Jesse Jenkins, who said, “The country’s automakers, utilities, and manufacturers in energy-intensive industries don’t want this bill.” Musk replied, “Good question. Who?” and further warned that the bill’s $5 trillion debt ceiling hike would push America “into debt slavery.”

The bill, which supports Trump’s promise of launching the largest mass deportation campaign in US history, remains under intense scrutiny as Republican leaders race to pass it before the July 4 deadline.
