Mangaluru, Jun 26: The Institute of Aviation Studies, Srinivas University hosted a powerful and insightful guest lecture titled 'Ragging is a crime, not a tradition', promoting legal awareness among students on June 25. The session was conducted by Dr Adv Pavithra Kumari, a renowned legal expert, and was organized for the students of 2nd year BBA in aviation management and aviation & logistics management, as well as 3rd year BBA in aviation management and aviation travel & tourism management. The event was conducted under the esteemed guidance of dean, head of the department, guest lecture coordinator, and other faculty members. The lecture aimed to raise awareness about the legal, emotional, and social consequences of ragging while promoting a campus culture rooted in respect, safety, and inclusivity.
Dr Pavithra Kumari began the lecture by explaining the meaning, forms, and myths surrounding ragging, making it clear that it is not a tradition but a serious crime. She highlighted the various emotional, psychological, academic, and social consequences faced by victims of ragging.





Drawing from real-life incidents and she emphasized the grave punishments that perpetrators can face under laws such as the UGC Regulations 2009 and the Indian Penal Code. The session also explored how ragging disrupts academic environments and violates fundamental rights, including the right to dignity and equality. She encouraged students to play an active role in preventing ragging by being vigilant, supporting victims, and reporting any incidents without fear. She urged students to foster a safe, respectful, and legally aware campus.
Overall, the session was educational, thought-provoking, and empowering, leaving students with a clear understanding of the legal implications of ragging and the importance of standing united against it.
