Mumbai, Jun 23: Actress and style icon Sonam Kapoor has made a heartfelt gesture by donating 12 inches of her signature long black hair to charity. The actress documented the transformation on Instagram, sharing a video of her haircut session with hairstylist Pete Burkill and showing off her fresh, breezy summer look.
In the video, Sonam playfully credited her thick, flowing locks to her father, actor Anil Kapoor. “Hi everyone, so I decided to cut 12 inches of my hair. It doesn’t look like much on camera, but it’s actually a whole foot. Thanks to my dad, I’ve always had really thick, long hair,” she said. “It just felt like the right time to chop off a good amount and donate it to charity.”

While the cut is dramatic, Sonam reassured fans that her hair remains long and healthy. “Pete has been taking care of my hair for years now, and we thought this would be a great way to refresh things for the summer — and for a good cause. I feel light, happy, and so ready for the season,” she added.
In her Instagram caption, Sonam wrote: “Decided to cut off 12 inches off my hair and give it away! @peteburkill thanks @anilskapoor for the genes.”
On the work front, Sonam is gearing up for her next film, Battle of Bittora, based on Anuja Chauhan’s bestselling 2010 novel. The political-romantic drama follows two young politicians who fall in love despite being election rivals. The film is being produced by Anil Kapoor Films in collaboration with Communication Network.
Beyond her upcoming projects, Sonam also took a moment to celebrate a major musical milestone. Two of her hit tracks — “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” and “Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai” — have each crossed one billion views on YouTube.
Reflecting on the Prem Ratan Dhan Payo title track, Sonam said, “I still remember the buzz when the song was released — it was everywhere! Those Dubsmash videos were a cultural moment. It feels like it happened just yesterday.”
The actress also reminisced about “Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai” from Khoobsurat (2014), a track she holds close to her heart. “It’s still on my dance playlist! I had an absolute blast shooting the video, just letting loose and enjoying myself. It’s incredible to see the song still thriving as a party anthem today.”
With a refreshed look, a philanthropic gesture, and a wave of nostalgia, Sonam Kapoor continues to blend fashion, film, and heart — effortlessly.
