Mumbai, Jun 23: Acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi has shared a heartfelt reflection on how love and relationships were once grounded in simplicity, patience and trust—free from the distractions of modern technology.

Taking a nostalgic walk down memory lane, Tripathi remembered the days when he would eagerly await a single phone call from his now-wife, Mridula, during his hostel years. “At 8 PM, I would get a call from her on the landline in the canteen. The whole day was spent waiting for that one call,” he recalled.

Tripathi described how students would sit by the telephone booth, plate in hand, hoping their call would come through. “There was no caller ID or ringtone to let us know who was calling. We just waited. That was love — built on faith,” he said.

Speaking about the impact of technology on today’s relationships, Tripathi remarked, “Now, people track each other’s locations, checking updates constantly. That’s where doubt starts. Back then, there was no room for suspicion — there was just trust and anticipation.”

He emphasized that in his younger days, technology meant public transport — trains, buses, or auto rickshaws — not mobile phones or apps. “We didn’t have devices in our hands 24×7. Life was different, and so was love,” he said.

Pankaj met Mridula in 1993 during a wedding when they were both in college. They married in 2004, moved to Mumbai, and had a daughter, Aashi, in 2006.

Tripathi is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Metro…In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu. The film, exploring modern relationships and emotions, features an ensemble cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Konkona Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta. The film hits theatres on July 4.
