Washington, Jun 11: President Donald Trump lashed out at California governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday morning in a blistering Truth Social post, accusing him of failing to protect ICE officers during ongoing protests in Los Angeles.
“The INCOMPETENT Governor of California was unable to provide protection in a timely manner when our ICE Officers, GREAT Patriots they are, were attacked by an out-of-control mob of agitators, troublemakers, and/or insurrectionists. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.

The president’s fiery remarks came hours after Newsom delivered a sharp rebuke of the administration’s deployment of nearly 5,000 National Guard personnel and Marines to the city.
In his prime-time address Tuesday, Newsom accused the Trump administration of "pulling a military dragnet" across Los Angeles, saying, “The government isn’t protecting our communities. They are traumatising our communities. And that seems to be the entire point.”
“California will keep fighting — in our streets, in our courts, and on behalf of all our people,” he said, warning that “democracy is under assault right before our eyes.”
Newsom further accused Trump of dismantling democratic institutions: “He’s taking a wrecking ball to our founding fathers’ historic project — three coequal branches of independent government.”
Amid the political firestorm, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass imposed a curfew in downtown LA from 8 pm Tuesday to 6 am Wednesday, citing security concerns.
Bass, 71, echoed Newsom’s stance in a post on X, criticizing the scope of ICE operations: “The Trump administration told us they were going after violent criminals, gang members, and drug dealers. But they went after a Home Depot. They’re going after families and children. That does not make Los Angeles more safe.”
As the situation intensifies, federal and local authorities remain at odds over law enforcement, immigration policies, and the use of military force in civilian protests.
