Washington, Jun 8: JD Vance, the US vice president, has criticised Elon Musk for his recent sharp attacks on President Donald Trump, calling it a "huge mistake" that could harm both the country and Musk himself.
In an interview released Friday, Vance described Musk as an ‘emotional guy’ who ‘lost his cool’ in a series of social media posts targeting Trump. Musk’s posts included calls for impeachment, accusations of a government cover-up involving Trump’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and criticism of Trump’s tax and spending bill.
Vance urged Musk to ‘chill out’ and expressed hope that Musk might eventually reconcile with Trump, although he acknowledged that Musk’s aggressive stance has gone "so nuclear" that it may not be possible now.
Responding to Musk’s allegations about Epstein, Vance said, "Absolutely not. Donald Trump didn’t do anything wrong with Jeffrey Epstein." He called Musk’s posts "totally insane" and defended the President’s performance, saying, "The president is doing a good job."
Despite the criticism, Vance praised Musk as an "incredible entrepreneur" and commended his efforts to improve government efficiency, even though those efforts resulted in significant job cuts. On the controversial tax and spending bill, which Musk labelled a "disgusting abomination," Vance defended it as a "good bill" aimed at extending Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, while acknowledging it wasn’t perfect.
The escalating public feud has drawn calls for peace from billionaire Bill Ackman, with Musk indicating a willingness to engage in dialogue. The White House is reportedly attempting to mediate between the two, though no formal talks have been confirmed yet.
