Mangaluru, Jun 2: With the conviction that the beginning of a new academic year brings with it fresh starts, new adventures, and boundless opportunities, Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru stepped into the new academic year on June 2, 2025, for the students of UKG, Grades I to X, and XII with joy and hope. The school auditorium was abuzz with the energy of students and faculty, all ready to embark on a new chapter of learning and growth.

The welcome assembly and prayer service were conducted in two sessions, first to the students of Grades V to X and XII led by the students of Grade X A. It set the tone for the year ahead, instilling a sense of reverence for the Almighty and joy for the journey that lies ahead. The second session, conducted for the students of UKG to Grade IV was filled with excitement and enthusiasm as the little ones stepped into the new academic year with innocence and wonder. The warm smiles and cheerful participation of these young students added a special charm to the day.

The principal, Sr Melissa, along with the administrator Sr Carissima, vice principal Sr Teena, and head teacher Sr Reshma Dsouza, warmly welcomed the students, setting a gracious and positive tone for the year. New students who joined the institution for the academic year 2025–26 were greeted with heartfelt warmth. The newly appointed faculty members and coordinators were introduced by the principal and welcomed with a rose by the administrator, symbolizing a graceful gesture of inclusion and goodwill.

Sr Melissa took the opportunity to highlight the commendable achievements of the students in the recent Grade X and XII board examinations. She announced the names of the top scorers, inspiring their juniors to strive for academic excellence. She also reiterated the school’s vision and mission, stressing their importance in every student’s educational journey. She reminded the students about the importance of discipline, adherence to school rules, and the creation of a positive and conducive learning environment.

Further, she briefed the students about CBSE’s directive on incorporating daily positive affirmations into the morning assembly, a practice aimed at enhancing students' emotional and social well-being in addition to academic development. She also addressed the health concerns associated with excessive sugar intake, highlighting CBSE’s recommendation to set up 'sugar boards' in all affiliated schools. This initiative, guided by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, aims to tackle growing issues such as childhood obesity and diabetes.

Administrator Sr Carissima shared an inspiring message with the students, emphasizing the three C’s mentioned in the CBSE circular on positive affirmations - Clarity, Calmness, and Confidence. She underlined the idea that education is not limited to academic success alone but also encompasses personal growth and emotional well-being.

After the assembly, students dispersed to their respective classrooms, where class teachers welcomed them and oriented them on the school’s systems, policies, and expectations. The day concluded on a note of promise, with hearts full of hope and minds ready to learn.
