Margao, Jun 1: A devastating fire broke out early Saturday morning, completely destroying a popular café in Colva and gutting property worth over Rs 25 lakh.

According to Fire Officer Gill D’Souza, the blaze is believed to have started well before it was noticed around 6:30 am when locals saw smoke pouring from the shop and alerted the Margao fire brigade.

By the time fire crews arrived, the flames had already consumed most of the café’s contents, including refrigerators, furniture, and air conditioners. Even the walls of the café suffered extensive damage.

An air conditioning unit at a dental clinic on the first floor of the same building was also damaged in the fire, though no injuries have been reported.

Gill confirmed that the extent of the damage was significant, estimating losses at more than Rs 25 lakh. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
