Udupi: Hunger-free day celebrated at Malabar Gold

Udupi, May 29: The Udupi branch of Malabar Gold & Diamonds organised a 'Hunger-Free Day' celebration on May 28, which was inaugurated by the vice president of Udupi City Municipality, Rajani Hebbar.

In her address, Rajani Hebbar emphasised the significance of the initiative, stating, "Millions of people in our country still go without a proper meal each day. Helping to feed the hungry is a noble and virtuous act. Malabar Gold’s effort in this direction is truly commendable and sets an example for others."

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Veronica Cornelio, former chairperson of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents; Rajesh Shetty, president of the Udupi Journalists’ Association; Nityananda Volakadu, president of the Citizens’ Service Committee; and noted social worker Zaheer Ahmad Belapu. Each guest lauded the philanthropic efforts of Malabar Gold.

Hafeez Rehman, branch head of Malabar Gold, delivered the welcome address and provided an overview of the social initiatives undertaken by the Malabar Charitable Trust.

Vidya Saraswati spoke meaningfully on the importance of addressing hunger and food insecurity. Donors who contributed food packages were honoured and recognised for their generous contributions.

The programme began with a welcome speech by Vignesh. Dayanand delivered the vote of thanks and compered the event.

The event also saw the presence of branch officials including manager Mustafa, Gururaj, Sandeep Sapalya, and marketing manager Tanzim Shirva.
