Trump targets Harvard over foreign students, judge blocks DHS action

Washington, May 24: US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Harvard University, saying it must ‘change its ways’ after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) moved to revoke its ability to enroll foreign students. Speaking from the Oval Office on Friday, Trump questioned how students needing remedial math could get into Harvard, calling the situation "ridiculous."

“Billions of dollars have been paid to Harvard. Harvard’s going to have to change its ways. So are some others,” he said, hinting that other universities might face similar scrutiny.

Trump’s remarks came hours before a federal judge temporarily blocked the DHS decision. Harvard had filed a lawsuit claiming the move was retaliatory and unconstitutional, warning it would devastate over 7,000 international students.

“Without its international students, Harvard is not Harvard,” the university stated in its court filing.

Judge Allison Burroughs of the US District Court issued a ruling halting the DHS action while the legal battle continues. This comes amid a broader Trump crackdown on the university, including funding cuts and threats to revoke its tax-exempt status.
