New Delhi, May 15: India's telecom sector continues to chart a stable path in workforce expansion, with fresher hiring intent pegged at a healthy 45% for the first half of 2025, as per the latest report by TeamLease EdTech released on Thursday.
While this reflects a marginal dip from the 48% recorded in the July-December 2024 period, the momentum remains strong—driven largely by the sector’s aggressive shift towards 5G deployment, cloud-native infrastructure, and cyber resilience.
According to the report, the hiring landscape is increasingly favouring freshers equipped with domain-specific skills in high-demand roles such as radiofrequency (RF) engineers, network security analysts, and field technical engineers. Cities including Delhi, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Indore are emerging as hotspots for telecom talent.
“Although the sector is growing, it is no longer just about scaling manpower. Employers are eyeing a future-proof workforce built around specialised expertise,” said Shantanu Rooj, Founder and CEO of TeamLease EdTech. “Freshers with certifications in RF, cloud computing, and cybersecurity are poised to stand out in this evolving ecosystem.”
Interestingly, the report highlights a growing overlap between telecom, IT, and data-driven functions, giving rise to hybrid job profiles that demand both technical and analytical acumen. Rooj noted that this convergence presents a call to action for academic institutions to realign curricula and equip students with agile, industry-ready skill sets.
In addition to technical proficiencies, employers are increasingly valuing soft skills such as analytical reasoning, adaptability, and effective communication—qualities deemed essential in the high-pressure, rapidly changing telecom environment.
The findings come just ahead of World Telecom Day on May 17, a global observance that underscores the transformative role of internet and communication technologies in shaping society.
