Chandrasekhar slams Rahul Gandhi over special session demand

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, May 12: BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar has launched a sharp rebuttal to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s demand for a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, ‘Operation Sindoor’, and the ceasefire understanding with Pakistan, calling it a political stunt by a party "unable to digest India's progress."

In a letter dated May 10, Gandhi had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene an emergency parliamentary session to deliberate on these significant national security issues. However, Chandrasekhar responded by questioning the Congress leader’s parliamentary commitment, noting his frequent absences during regular sessions.

“I don’t know why he wants a special session. When regular sessions happen, he and his sister are often missing,” Chandrasekhar said.

The BJP leader accused the Congress party of political opportunism, particularly when it comes to national security matters, alleging that they only seek engagement when it suits their narrative.

Chandrasekhar took aim at the Congress' broader political posture, stating:

“If India succeeds, the Congress is unhappy. If the economy grows, women are empowered, or India is respected globally — they are still unhappy. They even go abroad and claim our democracy is in danger.”

He further challenged the Congress to an open debate on terrorism and defence preparedness, bringing up past criticisms of the party:

“Let’s talk about 26/11, Pulwama, and Balakot. Let’s talk about the lack of modernisation during ten years of UPA rule.”

Referring to Congress' reaction to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Chandrasekhar alleged that the party deflected blame by referencing Article 370, and criticised their record both in government and opposition.

He concluded with a strong warning:

“If they want a legitimate debate, the BJP is ready. But if they’re playing politics, we will expose them.”

Chandrasekhar's comments reflect the ongoing political friction ahead of a high-stakes parliamentary session, with national security once again emerging as a key political battleground.
