Amaravati, May 12: The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a property tax exemption for homes owned by Indian Defence personnel within the state’s gram panchayat limits. The decision, aimed at honoring the nation's armed forces, was revealed by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Sunday night through a post on 'X.'
Pawan Kalyan, also a leader of the Jana Sena Party, highlighted that the exemption is a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian Defence Forces personnel. “This decision from the Panchayat Raj Department reflects our deep respect and gratitude toward the Army, Navy, Air Force, Paramilitary, and CRPF personnel who dedicate their lives to the security of our nation,” Kalyan stated.
Previously, property tax exemptions were granted only to retired army personnel or those stationed at the borders. However, the new measure extends the benefit to all active-duty personnel, regardless of their posting. The exemption will apply to a single home where they or their spouse reside or jointly own it.
The move follows a recommendation from the Director of Sainik Welfare and serves as a token of appreciation for the unwavering commitment of the soldiers. Kalyan emphasized, “Our government stands firmly with every soldier and their family. Their service is priceless, and we are duty-bound to honor it.”
The announcement came after Kalyan paid his respects to soldier Murali Naik, who was killed in cross-border firing along the Line of Control during Operation Sindoor. Naik, an Agniveer from Gorantla, Sri Sathya Sai district, joined the Indian Army despite having other career options, driven by his dedication to serve the nation.
In recognition of Naik’s sacrifice, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 50 lakh for his parents, alongside five acres of agricultural land and a 300-square-yard house plot.
Kalyan added, “Murali Naik’s journey from a tribal village to the frontlines exemplifies the commitment and love our soldiers have for the motherland. The overwhelming support for his family proves they are not alone.”
