Trump signs executive order for self-deportation programme, offering free flights & cash bonuses

Daijiworld Media Network - Washington

Washington, May 11: US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order launching a new self-deportation programme aimed at encouraging undocumented migrants to leave the United States voluntarily. Titled ‘Project homecoming,’ the initiative offers free flights and cash incentives to migrants in exchange for their departure from the country.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Trump announced the programme, highlighting the savings for taxpayers. ‘This programme will save billions of dollars,’ he stated, adding that undocumented migrants could take advantage of the new programme by booking a free flight out of the country through a newly launched app called CBP Home.

The program will allow undocumented migrants to voluntarily exit the US without facing legal repercussions. According to the announcement, migrants will also receive a $1,000 stipend as part of the "exit bonus" to encourage their departure. The initiative is framed as a cost-effective alternative to traditional deportation, which currently costs over $17,000 per migrant in taxpayer funds.

Trump emphasized that those who choose to remain in the US will face severe consequences, including potential jail time, fines, wage garnishment, and sudden deportation. However, he added that there may be a pathway for individuals to return to America under certain circumstances.

The new programme is part of Trump’s broader efforts to tighten immigration policies and reduce the number of undocumented migrants in the country.
