Southwest monsoon expected to hit Kerala early, may arrive by May 27: IMD

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, May 10: The southwest monsoon is poised to arrive in Kerala earlier than usual this year, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting an onset date of May 27 — nearly five days ahead of the typical June 1 arrival.

If the forecast holds, it will mark the earliest onset of the monsoon over the Indian mainland since 2009, when it arrived on May 23, IMD records show.

Kerala's coast serves as the gateway for the monsoon's entry into the subcontinent, and its arrival signals the start of India’s vital rainy season, which is crucial for agriculture and water resources across the country.
