Chennai, May 6: Superstar Rajinikanth has heaped praise on actor Suriya for his performance in the recently released action entertainer ‘Retro’, calling it “super” and applauding the efforts of the entire team behind the film.

Director Karthik Subbaraj, visibly thrilled by the veteran actor’s reaction, took to social media platform X to share the moment of joy. “Thalaivar watched #Retro & he loved it…. Exact words of Thalaivar... ‘What an effort by the whole team... Suriya performance Super... Last 40 minutes of the film Superb... Laughter touch is Fantastic... God bless’,” the director posted.

Expressing his gratitude, Subbaraj added, “Am flying now.....Love you Thalaivaaa,” tagging actor Suriya, music director Santhosh Narayanan, production houses 2D Entertainment and Stone Bench Films in his post.

The film, which hit theatres on May 1 coinciding with International Workers’ Day, has received positive reviews from both audiences and critics. Suriya’s commitment to the role has been widely noted, especially his preparation involving martial arts training in Thailand to execute the intense stunt sequences.

Speaking to a YouTube channel, Subbaraj hinted at his next move. “I’ve been considering doing an indie film next—one that goes to festivals before hitting theatres. I already have a script for it, but then Retro happened. Now, I’m thinking maybe I should pursue that plan.”

‘Retro’ stars Suriya and Pooja Hegde in the lead, with a strong supporting cast including Joju George, Jayaram, and Karunakaran. The film’s music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, with cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali. The stylish action choreography is handled by Kecha Khamphakdee.

With Rajinikanth’s endorsement adding further buzz, ‘Retro’ continues its successful run, cementing Suriya’s place as one of Kollywood’s most bankable stars.
