Chennai, May 6: Tamil actor Silambarasan, fondly known as Simbu, has opened up about his heartfelt reason for roping in popular comedian-actor Santhanam for his much-talked-about upcoming film, tentatively titled #STR49, directed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan.

Speaking at the audio launch event of the horror-comedy Devil’s Double Next Level, which features Santhanam in the lead, Simbu said the decision stemmed from a desire to revive the essence of humour in Tamil cinema.

"Today, cinema is largely filled with serious, action-packed stories. There is a visible drop in comedy content. We are in need of soft, feel-good films that can bring back joy to the audience,” Simbu remarked. “Santhanam has been missed for quite some time now. He has the unique ability to light up screens and hearts alike."

Simbu, who has worked with Santhanam in several successful ventures, emphasized that the inclusion of the comedian in #STR49 is not just about friendship, but about what Tamil cinema genuinely needs.

He added, “More than just playing the hero, Santhanam should consider joining hands with other actors and directors as a comedian too. His talent in comedy is unmatched, and we need more of that in our films.”

Recalling their bond, Simbu revealed, “People wondered if Santhanam would accept the role. I told them one call was enough. He’d agree for me without asking for a script. Our friendship is beyond conditions. That’s also why I didn’t think twice when he invited me for this audio launch.”

The actor also lauded Devil’s Double Next Level and the team behind it, expressing hope that more films focused on spreading joy would grace Tamil screens in the near future.

Fans of both stars can look forward to seeing this iconic duo reunite on screen, promising not just action but plenty of heartfelt laughter in #STR49.
