New Delhi, May 2: Tensions continue to escalate along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, as the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small arms firing for the eighth consecutive day, drawing a firm yet measured response from Indian forces.
According to a statement from the Defence Ministry, the latest ceasefire violation occurred during the night of May 1 and 2, targeting Indian positions in Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor. The Indian Army responded with “calibrated and proportionate” retaliation to Pakistan’s unprovoked aggression.

Adding to the growing volatility, Pakistan also violated ceasefire norms along the International Border in the Pargwal sector of Jammu on Thursday.
The surge in cross-border firing comes in the wake of the brutal terror attack in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 innocent civilians — including 25 tourists and a local — were gunned down by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists allegedly supported by Pakistan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reacting strongly to the massacre, vowed to hunt down the perpetrators and their handlers “to the ends of the earth.” He has granted full operational freedom to the Indian Armed Forces to retaliate, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh holding high-level consultations with the PM and military top brass earlier this week.
J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently reviewed the security scenario with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in Srinagar. The L-G has authorized the use of all necessary force to eliminate the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack.
Meanwhile, in a strong message to terror networks, security forces have intensified the demolition of houses belonging to active terrorists. In the past week, homes of Adil Hussain Thokar and Asif Sheikh — linked to the Pahalgam massacre — were razed in Tral and Bijbehara. So far, ten such demolitions have been carried out.
On Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly unanimously condemned the terrorist attack and passed a resolution against the Pahalgam killings, reflecting nationwide outrage.
As tensions simmer along the LoC and the international border, the Indian Army remains on high alert, ready to counter any further provocations with decisive action.
