Central Team to Assess Cyclone Damage in Chennai


Chennai, Jan 8 (IANS): The central government's inter-ministerial team to assess the damages caused by Cyclone Thane that hit Tamil Nadu Dec 30 met the state government officials here Saturday.

The team is headed by Lokesh Jha, a joint secretary in the union home ministry.

The team met state Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi and held discussions on the havoc wrecked by the Thane cyclone in Cuddalore, Villupuram and other places.

The central team would be split into small groups and would visit the various cyclone-affected places.

The team would also visit Puducherry which was also affected by the cyclone.

After touring the cyclone-affected areas, the central team is expected to return here Jan 10 and have a meeting with the state government officials.

The team would then return to New Delhi and submit its report to the union government.
