Iskcon monks Cheer Gita Verdict in Russia

Kolkata, Dec 29 (IANS): Monks of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) chanted and danced outside the Russian consulate here Thursday to celebrate the dismissal of a plea seeking ban on the Bhagavad Gita in Russia.

Chanting "Hare Krishna Hare Rama", nearly 200 monks assembled outside the Russian consulate and presented a copy of the Bhagavad Gita to a senior official of the consulate.

"We are very happy about the decision. So it was our gesture to thank them," Iskcon official Radha Romon Das said.

A Siberian court Wednesday axed a plea seeking to ban the Bhagavad Gita in Russia and to brand the holy text "extremist" literature.
