Army Chief to Visit Gaya Officers Academy

New Delhi, Nov 13 (IANS): Indian Army chief General Vijay Kumar Singh will be on a day-long visit to Gaya to formally inaugurate the newly opened Officers Training Academy (OTA) Monday, senior army officers said here Sunday.

Singh will be at the Gaya OTA in Bihar and join the military ceremonies to mark its opening, they said.

The academy, the second such institution after the one in Chennai, began functioning in July when it admitted its first batch of officer-recruits for training.

Functioning under the Shimla-headquartered Army Training Command (ARTRAC), the OTA was raised in record time after approval last year.

The academy is meant to address the issue of shortage in the officer cadre of the army. The army is suffering a shortage of around 12,500 officers from its sanctioned strength of about 47,864.
