New Delhi: Railway Slashes Tatkal Time to 24 Hours

New Delhi, Nov 12: The railway department has pruned down the availability period of tickets under Tatkal scheme to just one day from the previous two days. Moreover, a person buying tickets under this head needs to produce his or her identity proof.

The department said it has taken this measure to stop misuse of the scheme. In the meantime, the time limit allotted to the agents has been increased to two hours from 8 am instead of one hour.

Tickets bought under the scheme will remain non-refundable as before in cases except where the train trip gets cancelled or unduly delayed. Another condition that will come into effect is that only four tickets can be booked under a single PNR number.

Railway minister, Dinesh Trivedi, said on Friday that all thee changes to the Tatkal scheme willcome into effect within a week.
