Digvijay Questions Advani Over Yeddyurappa Probe

New Delhi, Nov 12 (IANS): Congress leader Digvijay Singh Saturday wondered whether Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani would intervene in the transfer of an official probing corruption charges against former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

"I would like to ask Advaniji if he would tell the Karnataka chief minister to cancel the transfer order of the official probing corruption charges against Yeddyurappa," Digvijay Singh said while speaking to reporters.

He charged the state government had "given the probe to a person considered close to Yeddyurappa".

According to reports, former Lokayukta Justice N. Santosh Hegde had Friday charged the Karnataka government headed by V. Sadananda Gowda with transferring Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jeevan Kumar V. Gaonkar, who was working with the Lokayukta and looking into graft charges against Yeddyurappa.

The state government had replaced Gaonkar with Satyanarayana Rao H.N., ADGP (crimes and technical services), Bangalore.

Justice Hegde had alleged the transfer was an attempt to "sabotage" the probe against Yeddyurappa.
